Russians dominate orienteering race at IV World Cadet Games

In an exciting closing, the IV World Cadet Games 2024 crowned the champions of the orienteering race in its sprint modality. The competition, held in the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Park, brought together the delegations of Russia, China, Iran, Türkiye, Nicaragua and Venezuela in a circuit of 3 kilometers per competitor.

The Russian cadets once again demonstrated their dominance in this discipline, as in the previous edition. The men’s team, made up of Shirchkov Aleksandr, Mediantsev Maksim and Bezvodinskikh Zakhar, took gold with a time of 0:43:07. Their compatriots Vakhitov Ivan, Zhuravlev Zakhar and Generalov Evgen followed closely behind, obtaining the silver medal.

China completed the men’s podium, while in the women’s category, Chinese Ouyang Yi, Zhou Jingjing and Leng Runxue took first place. The Russians, despite an outstanding individual performance, took silver. Our Venezuelan athletes, Pérez Leximar, Márquez Yislaisy and Sánchez Zairan, achieved a meritorious third place, demonstrating great dedication and overcoming various difficulties.

“This is a triumph for Russia,” said coach Guriev Igor. “Our cadets gave their best in a challenging terrain and climate, the Venezuelan organization was excellent and allowed us to focus on the competition.”

The orienteering race at the IV World Cadet Games has been a real spectacle, highlighting the skill, endurance and sportsmanship of the young athletes.
