Venezuela makes a comeback in the Grenade Throwing during the IV World Cadet Games

A morning full of expectations was lived at the facilities of the Military Academy of the Bolivarian National Guard of Venezuela, where the grenade throwing test was carried out, one of the subdisciplines of the Military Pentathlon. This event brought together delegations from several countries, who competed in an atmosphere of fraternity and high competition.

In grenade throwing, two modalities are evaluated: precision and power. In the female category, the athletes had to throw 16 deactivated grenades towards four circles located at distances of 15, 20, 25 and 30 meters, while the men competed at 20, 25, 30 and 35 meters. Each competitor had the opportunity to make four precision throws and three power throws.

The female competition began with great intensity, highlighting the performance of the delegations from Russia, Venezuela and China. The athletes showed determination and aim, and Venezuela achieved a remarkable performance, reaching a possible second place in the category. The Chinese athlete stood out with a power throw of 53.5 meters, while the Venezuelan representative came close with a mark of 53.5 meters, which allowed Venezuela to stay in the fight for the top positions.

In the men’s category, athletes from China, Russia, Türkiye and Venezuela also gave their best. Türkiye took the lead with a throw of 61.35 meters, followed by China with 58.10 meters and the Venezuelan athlete with 58 meters. The Russian delegation completed the day with a mark of 54.45 meters, maintaining the spirit of healthy competition.

At the end of the day, Colonel Luis Miguel Velásquez, coach of the Venezuelan Military Pentathlon team, expressed his satisfaction with the preliminary results. “We are waiting for the final results, but everything points to a second place for the women’s category and a third place for the men’s. This is a team that faces its first competition at this level and although always looking for flexibility in the throws, they were quite good.” He also mentioned that the Venezuelan team depends on today’s score to get second place in relation to China, who had a 120-point advantage, who will probably surpass them in this competition. He also pointed out that “Today it was very important for us to be on the podium and for the boys to get a good score, since this test gives many points, it is one of the most difficult” he stressed that the Venezuelan delegation was always up to the task.
