Victory stays at home: Venezuela wins in fencing

The individual fencing competition that took place this Wednesday, August 21, within the framework of the IV World Cadet Games, Venezuela 2024, is a testament to the hard work and preparation that Venezuelan military fencers have carried out. The team showed an exceptional performance, combining a refined technique with an impeccable strategy.

In the women’s sword category, the Venezuelans Valladares Sofia, a first-year Cadet, and Ensign Fermín Karla, both from the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, reached an epic finale, with Valladares winning with a score of 9 to 8.

For its part, the men’s team in their individual competition in the foil category, demonstrated skill and determination, facing Venezuelans Gudiño Leomar, a 3rd-year Cadet, and Simón Colina, a 1st-year Cadet, both from the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, with Colina winning with a score of 15 to 13.

This edition of the IV World Cadet Games not only constitutes a landmark in the trajectory of Venezuelan military fencing, but also inspires new generations of athletes to follow their dreams and strive for excellence in sport.

Likewise, in the women’s foil category, the Venezuelans Briceño Aixmar, a 1st year Cadet, and Osuna Mariolis, a 4th year Auxiliary Second Lieutenant of the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, reached the final, with Briceño beating his compatriot, obtaining the victory with a score of 15 to 3. Meanwhile, in the men’s sabre category, the representative of the Turkish nation Acar Ibrahim faced the Venezuelan Julio Brizuela, a 3rd year Cadet of the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, unfortunately being injured and having to withdraw from the match, giving the victory to the Venezuelan competitor.

In the women’s sabre category, the Creole Gonzales Leokeidys, a 4th year Second Lieutenant of the Bolivarian National Guard Academy, and Stefany Fernández, a 4th year Second Lieutenant of the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, faced each other and although the victory remained at home, González was crowned the winner of this category, with a score of 15 to 13.

Finally, in the men’s sword category, the Russian Pakhniuk Viacheslav competed with Astorino Giuseppe, a 1st year Cadet of the Bolivarian Army Military Academy, in an arduous battle that gave victory to the Russian country with a score of 9 to 8.
